OurSong presents “Angels, Mysteries, and Fabled Creatures”
From the venue:
The spiritual nature of angels as well as the mystery of the birth of Christ are explored in the first half of OurSong’s holiday concert. Angels are often a symbol of personal protection and comfort and are prevalent in Christmas carols such as “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.” Morton Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium” as well as “Lully Lully” from the Coventry Mystery Plays evoke a sense of mystery and beauty, and we wrap up the first half with Jake Runestad’s “Let My Love Be Heard.”
The concert’s second half counters the first with a spirit of levity, exploring fabled creatures of the season and beyond. “Songs of Magical Creatures” with lyrics from Shakespeare starts the set, followed by other whimsical compositions celebrating holiday heroes such as Rudolph, Frosty, the Grinch, and even the Sugar Plum Fairy.
