The Collection of Sue & John Wieland, The Warehouse — This impressive private collection has more than 400 artworks and can be viewed by the public for free on the second Saturday of each month. The collectors are John and Sue Wieland and their aim, they say, is to “explore the rich and multiple themes of house and home” with ceramics, paintings, fiber art, sculpture, and videos. Works by Howard Finster, Roy Lichtenstein, and Radcliffe Bailey are included in the vast display. The Warehouse, located on Atlanta’s Westside, covers 37,000 square-feet and was formerly used to store furniture. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with docent tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. — Kevin C. Madigan

From the venue:

John Wieland’s career in residential development and construction – as founder and chairman of John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods, one of the Southeast’s leading homebuilding companies – ignited another passion: contemporary art.  Sue and John Wieland began collecting art in the 1980s and within a few short years their expanding collection focused principally on house and home.  Its themes include domesticity, memory, fantasy, history, the land, real estate, architecture, and the creative process.

More than 400 objects by nearly 300 national and international artists date from the 1970s through the present and represent works in nearly all media: painting, photography, works on paper, sculpture, installation art, ceramics, textile art, and video/film.  In 2016, Homeward, a monograph of the collection was published.  A second publication, The Warehouse: Selected Acquisitions 2016 – 2024, showcases more recent additions.

Free public access to The Warehouse takes place on the second Saturday of each month from 10 AM until 5 PM, with docent tours  at 11 AM and 1 PM.  Please check our website for updates to operating hours. We look forward to welcoming you to The Warehouse.  Your enjoyment and safety are important to us, and we ask that you please read the guidelines below.
