Bonaventure Quartet at Avondale Estates Town Green
CRITIC’S PICK
Sun., Oct. 12
What could be finer than spending an evening with the Bonaventure Quartet featuring Amy Pike on vocals at the Avondale Estates Town Green? Not much, I reckon.
The Bonaventure Quartet specializes in gypsy jazz, a form of jazz inspired by the groundbreaking experiments conducted by guitarist Django Reinhardt in the 1930s. Led by guitarist Charles Williams, the Bonaventure Quartet (which can number anywhere from three to eight members depending on who’s in town) will perform a variety of originals and time-honored classics drawn from the American songbook and gypsy jazz repertoire.
Former Atlantan and Lost Continentals vocalist Amy Pike lends the perfect blend of southern fried crooning and impeccable timing to the band’s swinging excursions, making for a sound as refreshingly delicious as sweet iced tea.
Lawn and stadium chairs, blankets and sundry accoutrement are recommended for this free, family-friendly event. – Doug DeLoach
