Walter Trout
CRITIC'S PICK:
Mon., March 23
Walter Trout, City Winery - Blues rock survivors don't come more determined than guitarist Walter Trout. Following a bout with cirrhosis and subsequent 2014 liver transplant with side effects causing other issues, including being unable to speak, walk or even play the guitar, Trout bounced back. After a year of dedicated rehab, he returned to the road and the studio with a new album, notably titled Battle Scars, as early as 2015. Trout has been on a creative tear since, releasing seven collections of his tough, steely hard-charging plugged-in blues. His latest, Sign of the Times (2025) is another impressive entry into his bulging catalog of nearly two dozen albums. Trout's gritty voice and expressive lyrics articulate the tough times he's been through but it's live where he connects with explosive energy and the fortitude of the veteran he is. - Hal Horowitz

A true icon of American blues rock, Walter Trout has spent more than five decades channeling the pulse of the times into his music. Known for his fiery guitar work and emotionally direct lyrics, Trout never tells listeners what to think. Instead, he gives voice to the tension, anger, and resilience that define modern life. His latest album, Sign Of The Times, captures that spirit with urgency and raw intensity, delivering hard rocking songs that confront the world head on while remaining deeply personal.
Fresh off the success of Broken, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Blues chart, Trout continues to push his sound forward. Backed by his longtime band, including Michael Leasure on drums, John Avila on bass, and Teddy “Zig Zag” Andreadis on keys, this live show promises thunderous grooves, blistering solos, and songs that hit with both force and feeling.
