Thee Sacred Souls, la Lom, & the Womack Sisters at Coca-Cola Roxy
CRITIC’S PICK
Tues., Sept. 15
Thee Sacred Souls, LA LOM, The Womack Sisters, Coca-Cola Roxy — The Daptone label has labored to rebound after the untimely passing of Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley, their biggest sellers. But with only two albums for the Brooklyn-based imprint, Thee Sacred Souls, a vocal trio from San Diego, has become international headlining stars. They capture the smooth Curtis Mayfield Chicago sound with warmth, sweetness and an obvious love of that ‘60s-styled vibe. Better still, this triple bill, tagged as The Constellation Tour, is loaded with two terrific openers; the percolating instrumental surf Latin threesome LA LOM (who sold out Terminal West the last time through) and the wonderful Womack Sisters’ Supremes-inflected gospel/retro soul. It’s a terrific combination. — Hal Horowitz
