First-Year Convocation & Welcome Party

Kick off your Georgia State journey at First-Year Convocation! Convocation happens at universities across the nation and serves the official welcome for new students. At Georgia State, however, we invite the entire Panther family to join us as we welcome our newest students and upper-class students and families are encouraged to join in the celebration.
Convocation begins promptly at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m. and all students should plan to be seated by 2:30 p.m. Registration is requested, using this form.
Carl McCray (B.B.A. ’16), a human resources leader at Delta Air Lines, will deliver the keynote address to this year’s incoming class A dedicated community advocate and proud Georgia State alumnus, Carl has remained actively involved with organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. He currently serves as events co-chair for the organization’s Young Leaders Council and was selected for the LEAD Atlanta Class of 2023 and Emerging 100 Atlanta.
Right after Convocation, the excitement continues at the Panther Welcome Party! Come enjoy free food, music and an overall block party atmosphere. Catch a selfie with Pounce or pile your friends into the giant blue Georgia State armchair. Grab a snack, dance to the music and hang with old and new friends!
Shuttles will be available to and from the Convocation Center with stops at Piedmont North, Piedmont Central and Patton Hall. Free parking is available in the Convocation Center Parking Deck and across the street in the Blue Lot. The last shuttle will depart at 6 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine.
