Brandy Clark at Buckhead Theatre

CRITIC’S PICK
Thurs., Oct. 29
Brandy Clark, Buckhead Theatre — Clark is lumped into the country genre due to writing hits for Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves and others, but her style is closer to singer/songwriters in the Laura Nyro vein. That’s particularly true of her stripped-down, self-titled release (2023) produced by the similarly-styled Brandi Carlisle. Her most streamed track, “Who You Thought I Was” is closer to country, yet work with the legendary Randy Newman shows how serious she is about her occasionally wry lyrics in “Stripes,” another hit under her own name. Headlining this medium-sized venue speaks to her success of pushing a classicist slant into challenging areas. — Hal Horowitz
