Out on Film 2026 - Kin & Connection: International Shorts
From the venue:
Across borders and generations, family can be a source of comfort, conflict, obligation and unexpected transformation. These seven stories explore the intimate—and sometimes unconventional—connections through which we discover who we are.
On a deserted beach, 16-year-old Aurora and her mother spend a revealing day discussing sex, love and the shifting boundary between parent and friend. A trans man caring for his father finds an unexpected opportunity for reconnection when alcohol-induced dementia grants him temporary anonymity. Alannah and her wife, Amara, plunge into the chaotic world of sperm donors, DIY insemination and awkward conversations as they try to start a family. In Pune, a pickpocket who uses seduction to distract his victims meets a soft-spoken student whose tenderness forces him to confront desires he has long suppressed. Expecting an uneventful Jummah, Safa becomes trapped between her overbearing family and an angry ex. In a Welsh fishing village, a young Shirley Bassey impersonator and a fisherman are swept into a secret romance, battling family expectations and tradition as they search for the courage to claim their happiness. And the comfortable routine shared by Vanessa, her disabled brother, Diego, and their strong-willed father is disrupted by Diego’s sexual awakening.
Shorts:
Sandy Fannies - Sixteen-year-old Aurora spends a naked day with her mother on a deserted beach. Time alone leads to intimate conversations about sex and love, blurring the line between being parent and child and being friends.
Peter - A trans man caring for his father with alcohol induced Dementia finds unexpected re-connection when the disease grants him temporary anonymity.
You and Me Makes Three - When Alannah finally decides she's ready for a baby, she and her wife Amara dive headfirst into the wild world of sperm donors, DIY insemination, and awkward conversations, all while trying to keep their sanity (and dignity) intact.
Upon Starvation - Vivek, a 30-something pickpocket in Pune, uses seduction as distraction, pressing against men on crowded buses to steal and satisfy his desires. Detached, he exploits others’ hunger while suppressing his own. Meeting Kartik, a soft-spoken student seeking genuine intimacy, disrupts Vivek’s control. What begins as a hunt unravels into vulnerability, as Kartik’s tenderness challenges Vivek’s transactional world. The film blends the raw eroticism of Vivek’s encounters with the quiet, messy intimacy Kartik offers. As Vivek grapples with feelings he has long suppressed, the line between hunter and hunted blurs, leaving him to confront the cost of his transactional life.
Same Time Next Year? Expecting another uneventful Jummah, Safa finds herself trapped between her overbearing family and an angry ex.
Never Never Never - In a quaint Welsh fishing village, a young Shirley Bassey impersonator and a fisherman are swept into a secret romance, battling the tides of family and tradition as they search for the courage to claim their own happiness.
Diego - Vanessa, 21, lives with her disabled brother Diego, 20, and their father Antonio, a gypsy with a strong personality. The happy, well-oiled routine of this trio is about to be upset by Diego's sexual awakening. While Antonio is proud to introduce his son to a virile masculinity, Vanessa becomes aware that her brother prefers men.
