Red Krayola

Red Krayola (originally Red Crayola) is an avant-garde rock band formed in 1966 in Houston, Texas, by Mayo Thompson, Frederick Barthelme, and Steve Cunningham. Known for their experimental sound rooted in noise and free improvisation, they were part of the 1960s Texas psychedelic scene alongside the 13th Floor Elevators. After disbanding in the late '60s, the group was revived in the late '70s when Thompson moved to England and engaged with the post-punk movement. Red Krayola has released numerous albums through Rough Trade, Recommended, and Drag City, influencing artists like MGMT, Animal Collective, and Ty Segall.
