Where to Eat in Kirkwood

Food

Named best burger in the country by the Wall Street Journal, it's sometimes hard to get a seat at Ann's. The favorite here remains a double cheeseburger with mayo only. The Ghetto Burger is a masochistic order: a plate-filling sandwich topped with chili, cheese, onions, and bacon. Whatever you order... | more...

Vegan/Vegetarian, Breakfast

CL: CL's Cliff Bostock Recommends: This breakfast takeout joint in Kirkwood gives full expression to the wacky imagination and humor of its owner, Nick Melvin. Three fat, perfectly rolled breakfast burritos are offered daily – one for carnivores, one for ovo-lacto-vegetarians, and one for kids. Just as compelling are daily-changing provisions in a case next to the cash register. You’ll find, for example, Atlanta’s realest carnitas, sauces, soups, and other entrees for home heating. — CB

Cafe or Coffee Shop

Restaurant

CL: CL's Cliff Bostock Recommends: You’re always looking for food with a Midwestern twang, right? Find it at this rather peculiar gastropub inside the Pratt Pullman Yard, where the gigantic “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” was located for about six months (and will be reopening elsewhere in Atlanta in March). The big deal here is the Juicy Lucy, a half-pound burger stuffed with cheese, but I was more smitten by the fried cheese curds that Canadian and Wisconsin fugitives cry for constantly. Get a seat at the bar and chat with the bartender Abby — not the Abby — who pastors a church and is fluent in liberation theology and boozeology.
Website: The Abby Singer name comes from an Assistant Director that would announce which scene the crew was currently filming. When Mr. Abby Singer would call out “Martini,” (known as the last shot for the day) everyone would know that he was mistaken and that there was “always one last shot.” | more...

Pizza

Pizza, salads and cannoli offered in a picturesque former gas station. Although the slices are NYC-styled, Urban Pie prefers to be known as "Kirkwood-style pizza." Thin crust is standard here, and with a $10 one-topping pizza special every day, it makes for a good neighborhood option. | more...
