Blandtown
Not much remains of the original churches and residences that made up the historically black neighborhood of Blandtown, which took its name from a freed slave named Felix Bland. These days, discount furniture outlets line Huff Road near the Westside. Nearby, restaurants such as Bone Garden Cantina and Star Provisions offer lunch- and dinnertime hangouts, while the Goat Farm Arts Center is home to hundreds of artists, performers, and technology innovators, and a variety of music and arts programming. Less than a mile away, Atlanta Water Works Hemphill Avenue Pumping Station has been drawing and treating water from the Chattahoochee River since it was built between 1892 and 1893 to replace the city?s antiquated facilities.
