Best Of Atlanta 2005 Header Large

2005

War. Tsunamis. Hurricanes. Runaway brides. News over the last 12 months has been unbelievable! But it ain’t nothing compared to the real story.

In this year’s Best of Atlanta issue, Creative Loafing does what we always do: tell you the stories behind the news — even if we have to make ‘em up!

Who else discovered the lowdown on the Loch Ness monster’s cousin lurking in Atlanta’s sewers? Who else learned how the world-famous bat-boy ended up in a cave in North Georgia? Who else snuck highly guarded secrets out of the Georgia Aquarium — and then ate ‘em! Nobody else did!

Well, OK. We didn’t either. But, in a year of more-sensational-than-fiction headlines, we had fun coming up with our own unbelievable stories.

Then, we got down to the real business of Best of: finding the true stories behind the best people, places and things in Atlanta.

We investigated leads, interrogated sources and beat the pavement. We checked out bands and bars, shops and restaurants, art galleries and parks until we were woozy. And as always, you readers weighed in, too, voting on your favorites.

A new feature this year recognizes a select group of people whose contributions to the city have made it a better place to live.

We’ve proclaimed them better than the best — they’re downright amazing — Amazing ATLiens.

We didn’t make them up. Really. You may even see them around town this week. And if you do, be sure to tell them that, according to Creative Loafing, the Piedmont Park parking deck site is a UFO landing pad.
