The Georgia Dome transformed into a modern Colosseum and Gladiator games were replaced with monster trucks as the 2010 Monster Jam hit Atlanta this past Saturday. More than 60,000 people looked on the spectacle of Americana and destruction while a toxic cloud of smoke filled the Dome.

Thousands of people gathered along 10th street and Piedmont Park for the Red Bull Soapbox Derby on Saturday, August 29. Over 40 teams competed in an awesome display of creativity, engineering, and stunt devilry. And of course, the spectacular crashes.

A crew of at least six people broke into Autrey's Armory in Fayette County at 4 a.m. Wednesday and took 80 weapons. According to the AJC, they used a stolen pickup truck to tear off the burglar bars, and were in and out before police arrived three minutes after the alarm sounded. Of special interest to the thieves were handguns manufactured by Glock and Sig Sauer.

Barry Bonds had a good weekend. He hit his 750th home run to pull to within five home runs of Hank Aaron's record. And he was voted to start in the All-Star game, which will be played on his home field in San Francisco.

The NBA draft is tonight, and the latest from ESPN.com's Andy Katz is that the Hawks could roll the dice on a trade. Or two:

The proposed deal between Seattle and Atlanta, with the Sonics sending Luke Ridnour to the Hawks for the No. 11 pick (which would have likely been used for Eastern Washington's Rodney Stuckey), is dormant but may not be totally dead. Multiple sources told ESPN.com...

In today's AJC, Hawks beat writer Sekou Smith predicts the team will draft 19-year-old center Yi Jianlian, a 7-footer from China. Under Smith's scenario, Memphis will then draft Al Horford rather than Ohio State point guard Mike Conley, allowing Conley to still be available at the No. 11 spot, where the Hawks will nab him.
