When the bars in Fulton County began closing at 2:30 a.m., we sorta thought people might start going out earlier to pack in the same amount of party time. Fashionably early, it seems, never caught on. The party still doesn’t get hopping till just before closing time. Thankfully, you can drop late into the DECATUR SOCIAL CLUB. Every Friday, Azul turns into an indie-rock dance party with organizer Preston Craig and a rotating cast of DJs including Jamal, the_chuck, and DJDJ Dylan, as well as special guests. The usual crowd is excessively hip: We recently heard you can view dudes in berets. OK. So, if the berets aren’t enough of a draw, it’s free before 1 a.m. and a mere $2 cover after that.

A city ain’t a city if it sleeps. Regardless of what the government may say, this city’s party class knows the deal: After the show, there’s the after-party, and after the party, there’s the hotel lobby, and yes, Atlantans drink till 6 in the morning. But who has themore...

Regardless of what the government may say, this city’s party class knows the deal: After the show, there’s the after-party, and after the party, there’s the hotel lobby, and yes, Atlantans drink till 6 in the morning. But who has the best after-party? If you don’t know, it must be NUNYA BIZNASS. Finding directions to the hot spots isn’t as difficult as when Steve and Andrea had to exchange an egg for rave directions on “Beverly Hills 90210,” but we can’t draw you a map. After all, isn’t it more fun to find a treasure when you stumble upon it?

When the city’s bars shout last call, people who still want a drinky-drink post-2 a.m. head for UNDERGROUND ATLANTA. Not only is Underground one of the few drinking districts in the city with a conveniently located parking deck, its eight bars are the only ones that can legally pour until 4 a.m. in Fulton County. The bars’ themes range from straight-laced sports bar Triple Play to unlaced drag shows at Charlie Brown’s Cabaret, so it’s a good bet something will tickle your fancy. On top of that, partiers can wander around between watering holes with alcoholic beverage in hand.

Atlanta may be The City Too Busy to Hate, but it’s got a long way to go before it rivals The City That Never Sleeps. The number of 24/7 entertainment options are pretty scarce, but there are a few pockets of all-night fun. Since 1998, the adrenaline has been rushing around the clock at THE 24 HOUR PLAYS, Plain Sight Productions’ occasional theatrical stunt in which up to 100 Atlantans gather to write, rehearse and stage eight short plays within a 24-hour period. Participants aren’t required to stay on site the entire running time, but many do. And even when the results aren’t timeless, the event generates a uniquely theatrical thrill. “www.plainsightproductions.com/24hourplays.shtml.”
