? Southern Comfort, the city’s favorite honky-tonk on the outskirts of southeast Atlanta, is back in business.
?
? In December, SoCo's current owner George Jones was forced to close the decades-old watering hole due to the rising costs of running the bar. But on Jan. 15, SoCo will reopen to sling drinks and host bands once more.
?
? Instead of selling, Jones is leasing the place to Johnny Adams, who previously owned Mickey Dees, a sports bar in Covington, Georgia, before it shut down, and his partner Josh Golghrt. When the lease expires in two years, Adams and Golghrt will choose whether or not to buy the bar.
?
? Jones' right-hand man and former Sunday night karaoke guru Tommy Lee said Adams and Golghrt recently entered the picture. The mysterious, unnamed potential buyer who originally said he’d purchase the place never followed through.
?
? Misty Braswell, who manages SoCo, will show the ropes to new management. While this is to guarantee the preservation of SoCo’s one-of-a-kind charm, Lee also says they are planning to spice things up by having a new lineup of bands every weekend.
?
? Jones, Adams, and Golghrt are trekking down to DeKalb’s courthouse tomorrow morning to finalize the papers.
