Bass player Steve McPeeks, aka Stiff Penalty, will have one hell of a birthday, courtesy of a longtime bandmate’s better-known project. Grammy-nominated metal juggernaut Mastdon, featuring fellow Fiend Without a Face and West End Motel guitarist Brent Hinds, was announced yesterday as the headliner for a combination birthday party and benefit to be held Wed., March 11, at the Earl. This will be the latest in a string of fundraisers for McPeeks, who is recovering from a serious work-related injury.

Tickets for this will-call only show went on sale this morning at 10 a.m. via Ticket Alternative. Admission is $30, a fair price to contribute to a good cause and see an internationally acclaimed band in an intimate setting. There’s a two ticket per customer limit.

Opening support will be provided by long-running comedy punks Lust and Athens’ best-kept noise rock secret, Motherfucker.
