Magnapop reunites, Kelly Hogan returns for Criminal Records benefit

Old and new school players alike return to aid the Criminal Records bailout

?
Not since 1996 has the original Magnapop lineup, featuring Linda Hopper (vocals), Ruthie Morris (guitar), Shannon Mulvaeny (bass) and David McNair (drums), appeared on-stage together to perform the songs of their self-titled and partially Michael Stipe-produced 1992 Caroline Records debut — or as it’s commonly referred to, “the pumpkin album,” or “the Halloween album.”

?
But now, for the benefit of Criminal Records, the old school lineup has reconvened after it’s 15-year divergence to play Variety Playhouse this Saturday, October 15.

?
Since that fabled pumpkin record clocks in at not much more than 21 minutes-long, the group will also play a handful of numbers from its second album, Hot Boxing — the album on which “Slowly Slowly” (above) appeared.

?
Carnivores and Back Pockets will be performing as well, along with Kelly Hogan and Patterson Hood will have about one-half of the Drive-By Truckers in-tow.

?
Tickets are $12.50 (adv.)/$15 (day of). Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354.
