Sissy Nobby is 'On Some Other Stuff'
As an academic, you could go to Eyedrum on May 29 to get a glimpse at a slice of truly American culture. As an ass-shaker, you could go to scrub the ground

A year or two ago I dipped into New Orleans' Nuthin But Fire Records on North Claiborne searching for elusive Bounce 12-inches. The clerk, a clean cut young guy in an oversized tee, looked at me sideways, before slurring, "Aight man. Bounce music...it's like three types. It's like some f****t shit, then it's some EXTRA-f****t shit, then it's some gangsta shit."
?
"I guess I want the gangster shit," I stuttered, and left with a Fila Phil disc.

Bounce is unique to the city, a combination of old school beats, Mardis Gras Indian chants, and the 2nd Line tradition. Like DC's Go-Go, the music never really took off with the mainstream, and to understand a New Orleans Bounce party, you kinda have to be there. The clerk at Nuthin But Fire balked when he thought I was looking for Bounce's gay spinoff, Sissy Rap. And if he hadn't launched into the hateful diatribe, I might have told him I was.

Sissy Nobby is a Bounce phenomenon, filling the Internet with amazing videos, collaborating with DJ Sega on an underground hit, and meeting up for an interview with Diplo.

Nobby's bringing the Bounce torch to Atlanta's Mondo Homo party on May 29 at the Eyedrum Gallery. As an academic, you could go to get a glimpse at a slice of truly American culture. As an ass-shaker, you could go to scrub the ground.
