Hip Hop Appreciation Week (HHAW) began more than a decade ago in New York with KRS-One’s Temple of Hip Hop M.A.S.S. (Ministry, Archive, School, and Society). Now in its 13th year, Atlanta kicked off the national week Friday night with a lineup of lyricists with lots of sex appeal.

The I Love Rap: My Chick Bad concert at Apache Cafe presented hip-hop through the spectrum of its the most underrated talent: female MCs. Hosted by local hip-hop pushers Dr. Taj Anwar and Ms. Dia, the crowd was full of Atlanta’s underground music scene.
