ATLANTIS MUSIC CONFERENCE — See articles.
BALBOAS — Taking their name from a California town where Dick Dale once lived, this fiery surf/rock combo play pounding instrumentals with enough reverb and sweat to pass themselves off as long lost members (or grandsons and a granddaughter, perhaps) of Dale's original Del-Tones. Tasty World/Athens (Nicoll)
EXPO2000 — Athens label Kindercore celebrates its 50th release in four years with four nights of shows. Tonight's lineup includes Kincaid, Tullycraft, Masters of the Hemisphere, Of Montreal, the Essex Green and Kings of Convenience. 40 Watt Club/Athens (Smith)
ANDREW LEANZA — This 16-year-old Gwinnett singer/guitarist and country/folk-pop prodigy is gunning to be the Garth Brooks of the 2010s. You can catch him early and say you knew him when. Billy's (Sarig)
LORDS OF ACID, DJ ASSAULT — With over a decade under their studded collars, techno-sleaze old-timers Lords of Acid bring their dance music mélange to a darkened club near you. Their newest release, Expand Your Head, features remixes of their tunes, done by such big leaguers as KMFDM, Rob Swift and God Lives Underwater. Live the Lords will undoubtedly render tunes like "Rough Sex," "Spank Your Booty" and "Pussy" with all appropriate tenderness and good taste. Good, decadent fun for the whole family! Opener DJ Assault begins his debut album Ghetto Express this way: "Ass, titties ... ass and titties." Championing a style known as "ghetto-tech," a savvy mixture of old school hip-hop and techno sampling, Detroit native Assault trades in dense, noisy dance music littered with rather mundane, sexually explicit lyrical musings. Imagine a typical junior high locker room conversation set to a loud, rackety beat and you've got the general idea. Masquerade (Robertson)
NINE DOLLAR MELLON BALLER — Sometimes press releases list an artist's extracurricular exploits in an effort to spark interest in their music. Take this Iowa quartet for example. Among other "accomplishments," they have had a song featured on MTV's "Road Rules," are officially endorsed by Jaegermeister and, most notably, have appeared live during halftime on ESPN's "Pro Beach Hockey" TV show. The music? Well if the above suitably impresses you, then you'll love Mellon Baller's generic, tediously lackluster take on alt-rock. Borders Books & Music/Cobb Parkway (Robertson)
PISTOL PETE & POPGUN PAUL — This New Orleans duo explodes the typically macho country-blues-folk idiom with droll, campy humor and an openhearted sensitivity that allows their gay-life paeans to speak beyond any compartmentalized audience. A rare instance where hilarity and insight comfortably walk hand in hand. Eddie's Attic (Robertson)
