NOTED ACTS
MT MINDS — Just when you thought all Orlando had to offer the world was techno and "Mickey Mouse Club" graduates comes MT Minds, who present their blend of Southern rock and hip-hop with such novelty and enthusiasm, you almost forget that Kid Rock and dozens of other acts beat them to it. Somber Reptile (Sarig)
MARIA MULDAUR — Although recognized primarily for that "take your camel to bed" hokum, Muldaur is a 30-year vocal veteran who started her career in a jug band and continued with stops through blues, gospel, pop and jazz. Her distinctive languid, sensually swampy voice sounds even better these days as the years have added a tough-but-vulnerable edge. When Muldaur, backed by her top-flight band, loosens up and starts digging into blues chestnuts, sparks fly. Blind Willie's (Horowitz)
REGGAEBLITZ 2000 — An invigorating mix of old and new, traditional and contemporary rasta sounds featuring the indefatigable Toots Hibbert and his Maytals, a certified Jamaican soul legend. The bill is also a return to the tuneful roots of reggae as the smooth (some may complain too smooth) Maxi Priest and Marley offspring Andrew (how many are there anyway?) approach the genre from the melodic, as opposed to the toasting, dancehall or ragga angles. Silky Brit Maxi Priest predictably headlines since he has the pop hits, sexy moves and VH-1 exposure. But even though you're guaranteed a few reheated classics from the Tosh and Marley catalogs, it's Toots who will steal the show with his gritty voice and infectious, non-stop energy. Tabernacle (Horowitz)
SUMMER SINGERS OF ATLANTA — Conductor William O. Baker leads the 175-voice Summer Singers of Atlanta chorus through works by Bach and Mozart, plus African-American spirituals and folk songs. The concert begins at 4 p.m.; call 770-338-9915 for more information. Peachtree Christian Church/Peachtree at Spring Street (Sarig)
