NOTED ACTS
AC/DC, SLASH'S SNAKEPIT — AC/DC, I salute you. Thank you for the pre-pubescent adrenaline rushes. Thank you for providing an outlet during puberty-stricken moments of good grief. And thanks most of all for never changing. Your new album, Stiff Upper Lip contains the same chords and screaming visceral volume that helped me through my darkest hours so long ago. While Axl Rose prepares to, er, dazzle us with his new industro-thrash-metal version of Guns N' Roses, former GNR guitarist Slash gets on with rock business. There's nary a drop of irony to be found on his band's new album, which features a dozen tunes that wouldn't sound out of place on a late-70s Scorpions album. Recommended for all you Ronnie James Dio fans out there. Philips Arena (Allen/Robertson)

KEVN KINNEY, JOHN MAYER — Like bookends on Atlanta's current singer-songwriter scene, Kinney has been around about as long as anyone can remember, while young gun John Mayer continues his ascent toward future success. Both are worth a listen. Smith's Olde Bar (Sarig)

BIG BILL MORGANFIELD — Though he never lived with his legendary dad Muddy Waters, the gene pool is still active. He's hired some of his father's incredible backing musicians, and the hulking singer/guitarist does a bang-up job with Waters' covers, so who's complaining? Atlanta resident Big Bill's got the big soul and the big voice to make his famous pop proud, and his debut from last year was well received in the blues world, not an easy audience to impress. The rising son's originals are solid and he plays a mean slide guitar. Besides, wouldn't you rather hear him have a go with "Mannish Boy" than a local bar band? Blind Willie's (Horowitz)

M.U.R.D.A.H. O.N.E.See Earshot. Karma (Chen)

PROJECT 86, LIQUID GANG, ULTRASPANK — A triple-bill of modern/aggro-rock, headlined by Orange County rock/rappers-for-Christ, Project 86. Also on the bill: Fellow SoCal headbangers Ultraspank and the Philly grind of Liquid Gang. Cotton Club (Sarig)

RHYTHM RYDER — This South Carolina jam band sounds like some unholy alliance between the Grateful Dead and Yes at their windiest. ("Tales From a Topographic Mars Hotel," anyone?). The guitar solos are longer than many full albums I admire, and honestly, how unfunky do you need to get before even your closet friends start telling you the truth. Brandy House (Robertson)

STRANGEBEDFELLOWS — A pre-Future Fest party, directed by DJs Skip, Brendon Lee, Kevin-O, Roger, Sherkhan, Bobble and Jeffrey, and also featuring a collaborative performance by Aerial's Heath and the Robustos' Tonya. Nomenclature Museum (Sarig)
