NOTED ACTS

FASTBALL — With always hummable and hooky tunes, Texas trio Fastball are on a mini-tour of small clubs to promote their forthcoming album, The Harsh Light of Day. Tonight, Smith’s circular stage should be the perfect platform for the poppers. If their radio single “You’re an Ocean” is any indication, the boys will be swimming to a bigger stage for their next visit. Die-hard fans should shout a drunken request for the Hoodoo Gurus’ “Like Wow, Wipeout,” a cover the band slipped into their HORDE Fest set a few years ago. Texas tunes played in the British pub-rock tradition, Fastball often throw a curve-ball to rowdy fans by playing crowd-calming ballads when necessary. Smith’s Olde Bar (Smith)
