WED/OCTOBER 4
MARSHALL CRENSHAW, KENNY HOWES — Crenshaw, the brilliant songsmith behind “Whenever You’re on My Mind,” “Someday, Someway,” “You’re My Favorite Waste of Time” and other dreamy pop confections, will perform solo tonight in support of his new Rhino Records release This Is Easy: The Best of Marshall Crenshaw. Local singer/songwriter Howes opens the show with his own brand of jangle, which is drawn from the same colorful pool of ’60s pop influences. Echo Lounge (Nicoll)
KEVN KINNEY, KITTY SNYDER — Kinney, of course is familiar to audiences as the frontman of drivin’n’cryin, as well as his excellent solo outings. Fans of Kinney’s more introspective work should check out Athenian Kitty Snyder. A warm, engaging performer and an extremely talented songwriter, Snyder is currently showcasing new material for the follow-up to last year’s excellent Celebrate album. Doors open at 8, so get there early and check her out. Smith’s Olde Bar (Smith)
MOTO-LITAS, KICKSTAND, MODEL CITIZEN — The jaunty Moto-Litas — an all-girl ensemble dedicated to playing vigorous garage rawk, delightful retro new wave and twangy instrumental surf — hit the Star Bar for a month-long Wednesday residency starting tonight. (See also Earshot, p. 85) They’re in especially good company at this gig with the rockin’ Kickstand — which is led by Ray Dafrico (KTO, the Niteporters, Soulfinger) — and the sarcastically named Model Citizen. Star Bar (Nicoll)
