SUN/JANUARY 14
BOOGIE NIGHTS WITH THE DISCO DEACON — See Earshot. Eddie’s Attic (Nicoll)
BARBARA BRANTLEY — Local singer/songwriter Brantley celebrates the release of her debut CD, Steal Away, as a true family affair, as she is joined onstage by her husband and two daughters, as well as Maurico Amaya (of Vientos del Pueblo) to perform her folk with a Latin feel at a 5:30 p.m. all-ages show. Eddie’s Attic (Ware)
PETER ROWAN’S TEXAS TRIO — Rice helped build the bridge to Newgrass with his flat-picking prowess during his tenure with David Grisman and JD Crowe’s New South. Rowan honed his chops with Bill Monroe and sang lead with Old & In the Way. Together, Rice & Rowan tastefully meld their collective histories into a Bluegrass show to remember. Add the backing of the Texas Trio and you have a night of dynamite licks from the stage and tappin’ toes from the floor. Last year’s Rice/Rowan show sold out. The heat from the stage will make you wish you weren’t standing out in the cold wishing you had a ticket. Variety Playhouse (Prusin)
SUNDAY SIPPIN’ PARLOR — As their name implies, Athens-based four-piece Southern Bitch work from the straightforward, hard-driving, attitude-heavy tradition of Southern rock. But they keep things interesting with unpredictable harmonic changes and a vague sense of the sinister. Local songwriter and performer Drew deMann, who also performs, is one of the movers behind the Somber Reptile’s ongoing Sunday Sippin’ Parlor series, a weekly showcase of alt-country, roots & redneck music starting at 4 p.m. Somber Reptile (Hutchinson)
