ERIC BIBB — Through five albums, this smooth-voiced folk/bluesman has done the similarly styled Keb’ Mo’ one better by adding soul and gospel to his acoustic roots stew. Bibb’s new release includes covers of dark Americana standards such as “Delia’s Gone,” the Rev. Gary Davis’ “I Heard the Angels Singing” and even Hendrix’s “Angel,” which accurately sums up his eclectic, hardly reverential approach. Blind Willie’s (Horowitz)

MELISSA ETHERIDGE — Mirroring her recent romantic breakup, Etheridge goes it alone on this outing. But even without a band, she plays to the back rows, eschewing subtlety for teeth-rattling intensity. Atlanta Civic Center (Horowitz)

THE TOM COLLINS, FLAIR, GIRL CHRIS — A night of wildly off-center local art-rock. Headliners The Tom Collins have a new CD of their Zeppelin-riffing, modern-pop songs on the way later this month, and they’ll be previewing tracks that are sure to please fans of both classic-rock riffing and catchy pop. Also on the triple-bill: Spirographically swirly Flair and a fairly new ensemble called Girl Chris, whose lead singer is a storied scene veteran, the anything-but-mellow Yellow. Smith’s Olde Bar (Sarig/Nicoll)
