Sound Menu November 28 2001 Mon
DROWNING POOL, STEREOMUD — The only feature that distinguishes these sub-Staind bands from one another or the rest of the now-crowded angst-metal field is their lead singers and a few simplistic sing-along choruses. Otherwise, they’re just loud background music for mingling with other alienated teens while thrashing in the mosh pit. Wear your game face. Cotton Club (Horowitz)
ENON, LOVE AS LAUGHTER — Enon, featuring a former member of cult-fave indie band Brainiac, play quirky collage rock — a mix of lo-fi, loops and literal suitcases of found-sound fidgets. R&B for those with ADD. Originally a solo project, opening act Love As Laughter has fleshed out in to a frenzied bluesy garage-rock band that sounds like the British Invasion meets the early new wave ’80s in glam rock’s dressing room. Echo Lounge (Ware)
DAVE NAVARRO — Photographer, Webmaster, ex-junkie and guitarist to the stars (Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails), multi-instrumentalist Navarro’s first solo album is a remarkably wank-free affair. Substituting murky, moody textures for his post-Hendrix guitar squall, Navarro’s occasionally meandering songs explore the dark side of his moon. Goth and bleakly melodic, his music is perfect for the brooding black lipstick crowd that frequents this venue. Masquerade (Horowitz)
