This week is a slow one for local music news, so here are some random items for your perusal. The Black Crowes recently covered Clarence Carter's yuletide classic "Back Door Santa." You can download it for free on the band's website, www.blackcrowes.com. If you're in New York during New Year's Eve, you can see them perform it at Madison Square Garden, too ... For $300, you can hang out with the Woggles during Little Steven's Underground Garage bash at Hard Rock Café New York. Other bands appearing at the ESPN-televised event include the Mooney Suzuki and New York Dolls ... Cat Power and the Whigs are among an initial list of performers announced by South by Southwest last week. More acts will be added in coming months. The Austin, Texas music festival takes place from March 15-19...

In even more random news, the Fox Theater, Philips Arena, Chastain Park Amphitheater, and, uh, Sugarland are among the nominees for the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards. The 17th annual ceremony takes place in Las Vegas on Feb. 15, 2006 ... The Ludacris Foundation and United Cerebral Palsy recently launched a public awareness campaign. The effort includes a public service announcement, "Dream," starring Luda and Ruje'anne Duplessis, a teenager whom suffers from the disease. You can watch the clip at www.ucp.org ... Atlanta-based reggae label Tech Sound Industries has begun reissuing its catalog through online stores such as www.passalong.com and www.emusic.com. The label will announce more Internet distribution deals and begin a promotional campaign in January 2006 ... Slim Chance and the Convicts's new album, The Dark Side of the Moon Pie features performances from several members of Chance's family.
