Chain gang

Whether worn as necklaces, bracelets or belts, chains have been all the rage for the past few seasons due to the rise of the "ghetto fabulous" and "white trash" jewelry craze. Since this season's fashion is more tailored and feminine, jewelry has become more refined and simplistic. The chain trend is no longer big and chunky, but sleek and delicate.

And when once it was taboo to wear both gold and silver chains at the same time, it is now refreshing and hip. Over the past few seasons, gold has taken back the reins over silver when it comes to accessories and jewelry. This fall, gold steps back a bit to share the spotlight with its precious metal counterpart. Feel free to pile on gold and silver necklaces in different lengths and widths or stack charm bracelets and bangles so they climb up your arm.

One warning though: When you're wearing this much jewelry, keep everything else simple. No ruffled or printed shirts allowed. And don't adorn yourself with a neck full of chains and an arm full of bracelets at the same time — that's metallic overkill. The key to this look is in keeping it tasteful. It's best not to come across as if you are wearing a sheet of armor.
