New Jack's Back in the City

A quick guide to what's happening in nightlife each week

Back in the late 1980s, the musical sub-genre called New Jack Swing ruled the world. Honed and perfected by producer Teddy Riley, the sound - which blended hip-hop rhythms with R&B - was in heavy rotation on radios and TV screens worldwide. Culturally, it went on to influence everything from film and fashion to dance and even hair - but, like all things, it eventually went the way of the T-Rex. On JULY 3, however, the musical style will come back from the dead for SWINGING WITH THE NEW JACKS, A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO TEDDY RILEY. The event promises to feature local artists like Gaelle, Dres Tha Beatnik, Phillipia and more guests performing choice cuts from the New Jack era. DJs Jamal Ahmad and Larmarrous will spin more hits following the show.

$10. 8 p.m. Endenu, 393 Marietta St. 404-522-8874.
