An All-Star Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd

Next, the latest in a line of Skynyrd tribute albums comes from the same record company, and of course features Pyle along with other (disgruntled?) former Skynyrd members on one track. But the real hoot on this one is Black Oak Arkansas’ Jim Dandy Mangrum croaking his way through “What’s Your Name?” so bad it’s good. Mangrum sounds like he could do voice-overs for a “Chester the Molester” cartoon. The rest of it ranges from poor to OK, and features the Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot – you get the picture. Personally, I will stick with the originals. 2 stars
