All the Saints

Fire on Corridor X

Fire on Corridor X, the full-length debut from the Atlanta art-rock trio All the Saints, channels a palette of fiery Southern shoegaze and doom-laden psychedelia into songs that are as epic as they are explosive. “Shadow Shadow” booms with slowly arching riffs that bend into a mourning rock dirge. The tension of menacing walls of resonance juxtaposed against apocalyptic folk strumming in “Papering Fix” and “Leeds” nods to the gothic pop tones of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets. But soft production qualities take the edge off of ATS’ abrasive live sound. There’s no denying the power of these songs, but they would be better served by a recording that’s a bit rougher around the edges. 4 stars
