The Individuals

Fields/Aquamarine

The Individuals were an early ’80s Hoboken-based band that embraced Talking Heads intellectualism, New Wave danceable rhythms and the scratchy guitars that would form the sound of indie rock. Between tours with R.E.M. and local concerts, the group managed to only release an EP, 1981’s Aquamarine, and a 1982 full length, Fields. Though the albums were well-reviewed and the group established a loyal fan base, the music has never been on CD until this new reissue. Composed largely of songs about young romance – and failed attempts at romance – highlights include “Leap of Faith,” and “Johnny’s in the Mines.” Almost 30 years later, the music holds up completely, making the group’s disbandment shortly after the release of Fields even more tragic.
