1) It’s a sad fact of life: Hipsters are having babies and there are few appropriate venues to outfit the little tykes. Lucky for them, some locals are making sure the next generation of trendoids doesn’t enter the world tasteless. For swaddling new arrivals in style, check out the cool baby blankets made by local designers Modern Basics Baby at www.modernbasics.com, or visit Sprout on Howell Mill Road, Metropolitan Studio on North Highland Avenue, or the great indie gift emporium Beehive Co-op on Peachtree Street to stroke the blankies in person before you buy.

2) Atlanta artist Minna Hong’s lovely, fragile jewelry designs, which range from $29-$199, are sold at venues all around Atlanta including Alcove Gallery and Beehive Co-op, or at her website, www.designsbyminna.com. Or check out the VSA Arts of Georgia (www.vsaartsga.org) Holiday Art Sale featuring Hong’s designs through Dec. 23, where all sales benefit the artists and VSA.

3) Atlanta street-art duo UrbanMedium offers one of its best images in support of musically inclined robots, the DJ-D2 T-shirts, for the can’t-beat-it low, low price of $20. 4) You’ve seen his laughing ghosts on a variety of surfaces across the city. Now spread the word across your personal flesh billboard. Atlanta graffiti artist Geist sells T-shirts ($55-$65) emblazoned with his iconic pink ghost at his website (www.mrfangs.com) for yourself or the coolest kiddies on your holiday list.

5) The Small Sketches and Drawings exhibition on view through Jan. 14 at Swan Coach House Gallery (www.swancoachhouse.com) features affordable artwork by local artists, including gorgeous watercolors by Mia Merlin (www.miamerlin.com), who paints commissioned portraits of babies and children. Also, check out Atlanta College of Art grad Shana Robbins (shanarob@hotmail.com) who creates delightfully odd goth girl sketches in ball point and ink priced from $200-$1,000.

6) For the retro graphics fan on your gift list, Cartoon Network designer Jay Rogers offers delightful works that combine the sweetness of yesteryear with the irony-laced attitude of now. From limited-edition prints priced at $35 to original paintings in the $450 range, there are options for every price point. Pick up Rogers’ work at Buckhead’s den of the outre, Alcove Gallery (www.alcovearts.com). Also worth checking out while you’re there are Sid Watters’ beautifully rendered oil paintings featuring grim bunnies, and gallery owner/artist H.C. Warner’s own line of funky T-shirts ($17-$22) emblazoned with his demonically happy monkeys, Even more affordable art can be found at Alcove’s Humbug Holiday Show through Jan. 5.

7) Visit online gallery www.somecallitart.com to see Mark Starnes’ memorable photographs of Southern life. The talented local’s distinctive, romance-laden work starts at $100 and goes up to $600 for matted and framed prints.

8) New York City has Tara Subkoff’s Imitation of Christ recycled fashion line, but Atlanta has its own recycle-fashion designer in indie crafter Shannon Mulkey, who takes vintage slips and fabrics and reworks them into beautifully cool and ethereal, hand-dyed, one-of-a-kind dresses fit for your favorite alterna-princess.
