See & Do - Visual art: Cautionary Tails December 14 2009

Sun., Dec. 20

Bethany Marchman mixes anthropomorphism and the zoomorphic imagery present in famed fairy tales for her solo exhibition CAUTIONARY TAILS. A testament to post-modernist ideology, the oil paintings contrast a carnival atmosphere against the stark, dreary background of the Great Depression. Marchman – former owner of underground art space Rabbit Hole Gallery – parallels the harsh economic climates of today in her work, yet still holds optimism in the idea that solace can be found in small comforts. Through Jan. 3. Free. Fri.-Sun., noon-6 p.m. Beep Beep Gallery, 696 Charles Allen Drive. 404-429-3320. www.beepbeepgallery.com.
