See & Do - Special event: East Atlanta Strut September 10 2008
Sat., Sept. 20
Like clockwork, the EAST ATLANTA STRUT turns a tiny piece of real estate in the EAV into a seriously cool party. Patrons can run in the Strut 5K or take a more relaxed approach by checking out the music stages, Artists Market or Marching Abominables-led parade replete with scooters, bikes and even tractors Sat., SEPT. 20. And we can’t leave out the ample food offerings: tacos and tamales from Cantina La Casita; the Glenwood’s bratwursts and turducken burgers; and fried oysters and Lowcountry grits with shrimp and andouille from Vickery’s. No festival is complete without the fried goodness of corn dogs – of the regular, jalapeño and vegetarian persuasion – and funnel cakes. Children are welcomed with big, inflatable arms to Kids Village, where they can get temporarily tatted up courtesy East Atlanta Tattoo. All proceeds benefit local charities and businesses. Free. Gates open, 8 a.m.; parade, 2 p.m. Glenwood and Flat Shoals avenues. www.eastatlantastrut.com.
