Profile - Daron Jones

Member of R&B quartet 112

Most R&B fans know Daron Jones as one-fourth of Atlanta R&B quartet 112. But he's also a rising songwriter and producer, thanks to his work on Keyshia Cole's breakthrough single "I Should Have Cheated."

Jones' other well-known productions include the Notorious B.I.G.'s (featuring R. Kelly) "Lovin' You Tonight," and 112 hits like "Cupid" and "Anywhere." Other artists he has worked with are Jamie Foxx, the Isley Brothers, Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Usher and Pink.

His studio, Definition of Production Sound, is in the basement of his mom's Fayetteville home. "When you go in my mom's basement, there's no TV, PlayStation or pool tables. If you're coming in there, you're singing, rapping, producing ... there's something going down. It's not a place of leisure," says Jones. He adds that a lot of artists like working there. "They feel like they're at home."

In addition to writing and producing, Jones likes to play basketball, go clubbing and travel to hot spots such as New York, Miami and Paris. "I like to party. I love the nightlife," he says. But the East Atlanta native doesn't plan on moving anytime soon. "I like the pace of Atlanta. There's too much partying in Miami. I don't think I could be focused. And in New York, there's too much hustling," he says.

112 is currently recording its sixth album for Def Jam. "We always stay working and stay making records in the studio," he says. Jones is also recording a solo album.

Jones has his own label, DJ Music. One of his artists includes Hoodlum, a rapper. He also released a mix tape, Jackin Fa Beats, where he sings and riffs over popular tracks by 50 Cent and others, which is available at his website, www.daronjonesmusic.com.
