Dish, Dirt and Drivel - Old Firehouse Reborn as Pub

BAR TALK: It’s been vacant for as long as I can remember, but Firehouse No. 11, the century-old white brick building on North Avenue between Spring and West Peachtree streets, finally will be put to use. Once listed by the Atlanta Preservation Center as an endangered building, the historic fire station is being renovated by the owner of the chain of pubs including Midtown’s Prince of Wales, Buckhead’s Rose and Crown Virginia-Highland’s Hand in Hand. The new pub, to be called the Spotted Dog, is supposed to open this spring.

RESTAURANT TALK: Carnivores rejoice! Atlanta will be getting yet another churrascaria (or Brazilian steakhouse), this time in the Flatiron Building on Peachtree Street downtown. When Fogao Gaucho, which also has a location in Smyrna, opens next month, it will become the sixth churrascaria in metro Atlanta. Aren’t we sick of this trend yet? ... In other meat-eating news, Tom Catherall, the man behind Phipps Plaza’s Twist and Midtown’s Shout, will open a steak-and-sushi joint in Atlantic Station this fall.

DESIGNER TALK: Former Atlantan and clothing designer Amy Tan has been making waves in the Los Angeles fashion scene ever since la-la land’s hippest store, Fred Segal, picked up her line, Amy Tangerine, a few years back. Now based in L.A., Tan just designed a T-shirt that will be sold exclusively at Paris Hilton’s favorite boutique, Kitson. The tees, which will be available for shipment April 15, can be yours for a mere $75. Hey, if it’s good enough for Paris ...

TV TALK: Look for our fair city (and some of its not so fashionable inhabitants) to be featured in an upcoming episode of TLC’s “What Not to Wear.” The cable wardrobe makeover show wraps up filming in the ATL this week. The crew spent a few days in Piedmont Park, a day on Crescent Avenue, Monday in Virginia-Highland, and will finish things up at Perimeter Mall.
