PARTY TALK: The after-party for Lenny Kravitz's April 9 show at the Tabernacle was so thick that patrons couldn't leave because the crowd trying to get in was too big. Among the attendees were Jazze Pha, Atlanta Hawk Kevin Willis, NFL players Takeo Spikes and Dorsey Levens, TLC's T-Boz, actress Keshia Knight Pulliam and Dallas Austin's rap duo Da BackWudz. Billed as a benefit for Austin's and Kravitz's do-good foundations, Dallas Austin himself arrived late - in his Ferrari - while Kravitz ambled in sometime after 1 a.m., looking very rock-starish in black jacket and dark shades. A few women even screamed when he walked by.
CHARITY TALK: Grammy-winning multiplatinum singer Alicia Keys surprised a group of inner city kids last week when she spent the afternoon at Bright Futures Atlanta, an after-school program and summer day camp run by husband and wife Philip and Gail Ross. Keys is currently touring to promote her latest album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, and is making rounds to speak to underprivileged children. According to local DJ and Bright Futures volunteer Tim Degroot, Keys spent three hours talking to each child individually. Charity: It does a celebrity good.
RETAIL TALK: Start saving your pennies (or dare I say your Ben Franklins). A new shoe store is coming to town. Right up there with Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo is scheduled to open its doors in Phipps Plaza on Wed., April 20. Featuring women's shoes and handbags, the boutique will have a 1940s boudoir-style design, complete with velvet sofas, satin walls and crystal chandeliers. Ooh-la-la. ... In other shopping news, K-La boutique, located across from Lenox Mall in the Around Lenox shopping plaza, will close its doors at the end of May. Owned by Brazilian sisters Keila and Juliana Mesquita, the store is known for its sexy, exclusive designs from the ladies' native country. Though it's a bit of a trek for us OTP-phobes, the duo's slinky dresses and high heels still can be found at their Norcross location.
