ATL Bookmarks: events to hit this week November 19 2012

Anne Lammott returns to Atlanta and a writer’s workshops for those with words on the mind.

Before you sink your teeth into your turkey leg this Thursday why not feast on some food for thought? It’s not often an author such as Anne Lamott graces our city twice in a year- so her talk tonight at the First Baptist Church of Decatur should prove to be a tough one to miss. Or, if you’re in a mood to write- what better way to celebrate National Novel Writing Month than joining the Kill Your Darlings ATL at Park Grounds?

‘The People’s Author’ returns to Decatur for the Georgia Center of the Book to discuss her latest book of essays, Help. Thanks. Wow: Three Essential Prayers. A bit of a departure for Lamott, the book focalizes on her faith and serves as a Book of Prayer for the Common for those who aren’t comfortable with the Book of Common Prayer. Lamott discusses the benefit of earnest tiny prayers in the midst of dark days. Her more secular fans may expect her customary light-hearted charm and unbridled honesty. Doors open at 6p. Seating limited.
