Screen on the Green returns; don't expect movies with explosions, robots or Shia LaBeouf
It's baaaaack ...

Thomas Wheatley here, passing on some tidbits provided by Gwynedd Stuart, who's on her way back to the office after this afternoon's press conference.
As expected, Screen on the Green, the free movie night held every Thursday during the summer, will return to Piedmont Park.
Stuart says there's still some uncertainty about what specific movies will be screened. But city officials stressed they're going to most likely select classic and PG-rated films to avoid attracting the same kind of riff-raff that raised hell during a movie about robots from outer space. UPDATE, 4:05 p.m. All movies start between 8:40 and 8:55 p.m. Here's the line-up, courtesy of the Piedmont Park Conservancy:
June 2 - Back to the Future, 1985
June 9 - Imitation of Life, 1959
June 16 - Sixteen Candles, 1984
June 23 - Viewers Choice — The Birds, 1963 vs. Frankenstein, 1931
June 30 - Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, 1971
Mayor Kasim Reed said that recent concerns about possible budget cuts to the iconic greenspace that included eliminating funding for PIedmont Park security were unwarranted — and that a recent email warning of the possibility was "erroneous." Whether security is private or through the Atlanta Police Department, he said, it will be robust.
The annual outdoor event was canceled last week after the conservancy said sponsorships never materialized. Georgia Natural Gas, Delta, Coca-Cola and Comcast have agreed to step up and help fund the movie nights.
More details from the conservancy:
Moviegoers are welcome to bring picnic baskets, food and snacks but no glass containers can be brought into Piedmont Park. In consideration of others, Screen on the Green attendees are asked to leave pets at home. Umbrellas, high-backed chairs and grills are strictly prohibited. Parking is extremely limited so please take MARTA.
