We should be so lucky to have the mushy content of our insides look as lovely as artist Terri Dilling makes it out to be in her paintings and prints, where cellular flotsam swirls about in a painterly haze of plasma. Dilling's latest exhibit, Connecting the Dots, opening tonight at Spruill Gallery from 6-9 p.m., comprises a series of works resulting from Dillings' time as a visiting artist at the Center for Chemical Evolution in Atlanta.
"I have been especially interested in the way simple elements grow into structured patterns and complex diversity. This new work reflects ideas from science, but also comes from a personal perspective that is a strategy for understanding and engaging the world around me," says Dilling.
The exhibit, which runs through May 19, includes new paintings, prints, video work and a collaborative installation with Dillings' Sixfold Collective cohort Leisa Rich. A gallery talk with David Lynn, Chair of Chemistry at Emory University, and a workshop with Dilling and Rich will be held Sat., April 21, 1-3 p.m.
