Atlanta City Councilwoman Felicia Moore has attracted her first challenger in this year’s municipal elections.

Duwon Robinson, a lifelong resident of west Atlanta who grew up in the Bowen Homes Community, doesn’t think city officials have done enough for the area over the years. And the only way he can truly help his neighborhood, he says, is by joining the Atlanta City Council.

“I’m 35 years old,” says Robinson. “That community looked the same when I was a little boy as it does now. As a matter of fact, it looks worse. Someone needs to do something about it. Who better to do it than myself? That’s how I looked at it. As a man, I could take on this responsibility and do better for my community.”

This year marks the first time Robinson has run for City Council - something he says he’s been preparing for since 2009 after an unsuccessful mayoral campaign. Since then, he claims he has become increasingly involved in his community and continued to listen to people’s needs.

Among the key issues that comprise Robinson’s platform are education, local business, healthier food choices, and public safety. The former professional sports agent who now tutors children in the community says he’s bought shoes for kids, helped children pay for haircuts, among other things to help youth.
