First Slice 5-2-14: Deal leads Carter by slim margin in latest poll

Gov. Nathan Deal currently leads State Sen. Jason Carter by a margin of 41 to 37 percent with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent, according to a recent poll by 11Alive and SurveyUSA

The city of Atlanta has joined with Friendship Baptist to offer a proposal to buy Morris Brown for $12.6 million. The sum will purchase almost all of the 37 acres of the Morris Brown College property. The area is located just west of the new Falcons stadium. Future plans for the area are unknown.

If any public money is needed to help the Braves relocate to Cobb, the group Citizens for Governmental Transparency wants a public referendum on the final deal. The group is also calling for an immediate moratorium on the use of any public funds currently being used to construct the stadium. Rich Pellegrino, a spokesperson for Citizens for Governmental Transparency, says, "We've asked for transparency, we've asked for delays, we've asked for time to vet this proposed move. We feel that we've been given the royal runaround, that the true figures and the numbers, especially regarding costs, have been hidden at best and manipulated at worst."

The Polaris restaurant, the giant blue dome on top of the Hyatt Regency, plans to reopen on June 10. Once again, Atlantans and visitors alike will no longer have to be satisfied with traditional methods to feel like the room is spinning. No more huffing gas or sniffing glue, the new Polaris will rotate as it once did every 45 minutes.
