First Slice 7/20/12: Tragedy in Colorado

Top stories in Atlanta this morning.

1. As Gabe Wardell noted a few hours ago, all eyes are focused on the tragedy in Colorado, where a gunman killed 12 and wounded dozens. (The Denver Post has a breaking news feed.) Gabe’s appeal of course fell on deaf ears — Twitter and commenters are already discussing how the movie itself played a role. Also, Piers Morgan’s producer has already tweeted that CNN’s resident gasbag will be sounding off on guns in America tonight. So we have that to look forward to.

2. Invest Atlanta has issued a report noting that $68 million in available redevelopment money, already collected in tax allocation districts (TADs), can’t be used right now because of state tax laws and bond covenants. Which is silly and yet so not surprising.

3. By November, you should be able to buy Georgia state lottery tickets online. I don’t see how that could go astray at all.

Update: I’ve removed the reference to the comment on Gabe’s post, because it appears to be a hoax. Also removing the comment itself.
