Checking out the new Intown Farmers Market
I stopped by the new Intown Farmers Market Tuesday. It’s located at 563 Ponce de Leon Ave., next to Cactus Carwash. The market is open 3-7 p.m. Tuesdays only.
Nostalgic Midtowners will recognize the location as the site of the old Phoenix Cocktail Lounge, quite possibly the sleaziest bar I have ever entered — and, believe me, that’s saying a lot. Now it’s been demolished and in its place is a monument to good health in the form of a collection of what looks like five large trailers. They turn out to be greenhouses in which hydroponic lettuces are grown and sold at the market.
On Tuesday, there was actually only one produce seller at the market — The Veggie Patch at Bouchard Farms. But there was plenty else there. Here are some snapshots.
This is the market manager, Pam Farnsworth, whose day job is advertising. She was selling sauces from Zocalo, as well as bags of mixed baby lettuces grown in the greenhouses on the site. If you have questions about the market, call her at 404-484-0944. More after the jump...
