Omnivore - Catch-up on The Greek at Sweet Auburn Curb Market

Closing due in late February

My first trip out of the house after last week’s ice storm was to the Sweet Auburn Curb Market. I’d heard reports that Johnny Gianoulidis had closed The Greek Gyros & Pizza, so I was surprised to find him still on the job.

But the rumor is mainly true. He’s closing at the end of February. “It’s just not the right venue for us,” he said.

He’ll be moving to work with his brother, who owns Christos Pizza in East Cobb. Gianoulidis is also now a co-owner of Parkgrounds, the Reynoldstown coffee shop that allows customers to let their dogs play in an adjoining dog park while they sip coffee.

I had my usual spanakopita for lunch Friday. Wayne ordered dolmades and gyro wrap. As usual, everything was good-tasting, so you should plan a visit before the closing next month.

Grindhouse Killer Burgers and Bell Street Burritos appear to still be doing brisk business at the Market. In fact, my last visit to Grindhouse required a brief wait for a place to sit at the long bar. The new location of Grindhouse on Piedmont Road in Midtown looks like its exterior construction is about done.
