Omnivore - Popeyes turns 40, gets generous

$5.99 buys you 8 pieces

Where will you be Wednesday, March 21?

I know where I’ll be. I’ll be at Popeyes celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary. They will be selling eight pieces of fried chicken for $5.99. That doesn’t include any sides, apparently, but it’s a bargain for chicken that is better than most in full-service restaurants.

Yes, I know. This makes me an epicurean failure, as one of my favorite commenters says. But you can say the same thing about Scott Peacock, whose fried chicken has long been regarded as the South’s best. He loves Popeyes too, or certainly used to when he was chef at Watershed.

Get the spicy.
