I lunched today at Hobnob, the pub/restaurant at the corner of Piedmont and Monroe. My friend Frank and I got the same thing, the “Southerner” — a burger topped with a fried green tomato, goat cheese and a tomato salad. Frank thought the goat cheese was overwhelming but it tasted just right to me....

The Shed at Glenwood is close to sealing a deal to open a sister restaurant in the Midtown area. The menu will reportedly be a bit fancier than the Shed’s. Of course, we hit the restaurant Wednesday for its weekly $3 slider night. Favorite this week: Actually an amuse bouche of a single tortellino stuffed with sweet green peas. It’s on the regular menu of small plates....

A foodie friend, biking the Silver Comet Trail, reports lunching very well at the Water Club in Cave Spring last weekend. The restaurant is owned by Top FLR/Sound Table/Lawrence folks. Cave Spring is a soothing summer retreat, if you’ve never been....

Last Friday, I dined at Fritti for the first time in many moons. Instead of my regular pizza, I opted for the fried calzone, which I’ve never tasted before. It’s stuffed with San Marzano tomato, ricotta, mozzarella, salami, and cotto ham. Honestly, calzones are not usually something I like since most of them seem to have far more crust than filling. Fritti’s is crispy, slightly chewy, and filled with explosive flavors....

Farm to Ear? That’s what the Urban Cannibal folks are calling the pop-up event they are hosting this Sunday, June 24. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and is followed by a concert. Cost is $30. Write them for a reservation.
