Quick Bites: Fox Bros. reopens after storm damage, Boxcar Grocer to expand, and more

• Fox. Bros. reopens after a fallen tree took out much of the restaurant's dining room

Last week, Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q was forced to close temporarily after a tree measuring 70 inches in diameter crashed into the restaurant's two dining rooms during a powerful storm. Currently, and amid ongoing repairs, the restaurant is open for business. According to a Fox Bros. spokesperson, "there is not a ton of indoor seating, but they have all of the patio furniture set up and are filling lots of to-go and catering orders."

Mezcalito’s Cantina plans to open a new restaurant near Grant Park, across from Oakland Cemetery. The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that according to a permit filed Aug. 2 with the city of Atlanta, construction of the 3,300-square-foot eatery is costing about $160,000. It will be located at 304 Oakland Ave., near Tin Lizzy’s and Ria’s Bluebird.

Owners of the forthcoming Joystick Gamebar have brought on chef Mark Nanna as consulting chef. Nanna, who was formerly the executive chef at the original FLiP Burger Boutique, will be in charge of developing Joystick's menu in addition to his duties helming the kitchen at Bone Garden Cantina.

Beer Growler Nation, a new kind of beer store plans to open at 2749 LaVista Rd. in the Oak Grove Market complex. According to its website, Beer Growler Nation will have over 30 taps for craft beer, hard cider, and soda pop available to-go in growler form.

The Boxcar Grocer, a community food store located Castleberry Hill, hopes to build at least 3 new stores by 2014 in areas where healthy, affordable food is difficult to obtain. Owners Alison and Alphonzo Cross have turned to crowdfunding to raise money for the expansion. According to The Boxcar Grocer's Kickstarter page, funds raised will be used to create a farmer's market style food court located inside the store and much more.

Chef Mike Blydenstein (formerly of Barcelona Wine Bar, Restaurant August and Emeril's Delmonico in New Orleans) is The Pinewood Tippling Room's new executive chef. Eater reports that Blydenstein has already begun amending Pinewood's menu.

East AtlantaPatch reports that Kirkwood Bar and Grill, located in Kirkwood Station on Hosea L Williams Dr., has re-opened, three weeks after a judge overturned the decision to deny the establishment a liquor license. Controversy surrounding the bar and its owner David Johnson dates back to fall 2011, when the neighborhood first filed complaints against the bar for its window tinting, a violation of neighborhood rules.
